This 2-day training will provide school mental health staff with an overview of how Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills and strategies can be provided within the school environment using a MTSS model. School mental health staff are provided tools to identify student goals and behavioral targets for counseling sessions as well as the rationale of using a chain analysis as a method of assessment and guide to determining effective solutions. The training offers an understanding of the impact of the invalidating environment on emotion dysregulation, and teaches validation skills and how they can best be used to impact school culture. Time is spent on demonstration and participant practice of “Coaching On The Fly” when needed during the school day in order to increase the amount of time students spend in the classroom.
Please note: the DBT Skills in Schools: Skills Training for Emotional Problem Solving for Adolescents (DBT STEPS-A; Mazza et al., 2016) manual is required for this training. The manual can be ordered directly through Guilford Press or Amazon.
If ordering through Guilford Press, please use the coupon code AU2E for 15% off. Guilford Press does not send books as quickly as Amazon, so be sure to give yourself a couple of weeks for delivery.
Please read the overview section of the curriculum prior to class.
